It’s raining in London, but what’s new?

After a week of teaching in Ireland, we are going to crash at our friend’s house in Greece for a bit and write. It’s funny if we crashed at a friend’s house in Tennessee or even Oregon, possibly Manitoba, none of those places seem romantic or exotic. We travel pretty cheaply. I spend months getting cheapest airfare and as readers of my blog know, I’m willing to route us through Kiev, Iceland or Istanbul just to get a cheaper flight. This is a very comfortable airport bar like you never see in Los Angeles. There are couches and cushioned chairs and lots of prayer flags hanging. They have Bloody Marys with Patron which they call Bloody Maria and Bloody Pirates with rum. Now neither of those is technically a Bloody Mary.

What would be really difficult for a lot of Americans is the number of Muslims working in airport security. Women with full on black headscarves and men in turbans. I didn’t see any women in burkas, but I bet they would get a job here as well, and it makes me happy to see it. There are two Muslims in Congress and two Buddhists. When Keith Ellison was elected as the first Muslim in Congress from the great state of Minnesota, there were people who were really upset, but that’s the kind of great country we have… and that same great state of Minnesota brought us Michelle Bachmann who is known for saying this like she believes she should be submissive to her husband and…
“The thing that I think that is getting a little tiresome is, the gay community thinks that they’ve so bullied the American people and they so intimidated politicians that politicians fear them, and so they think that they get to dictate the agenda everywhere.” -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, CPAC conference, March 2014

America, what a country! I’m glad to be headed to Greece which has hopefully not sold any important islands to the Germans to make the budget work. We’re going to cook our own food and do our swimming and get some writing done.
